Uri need to select a primary hapū to determine your voting rights. Affiliations allow for you to acknowledge your whakapapa connections to more than one marae. It's up to you if you want to list all of your hapū but you will only get one voting right for your primary hapū. It's ok if you don't know which is your hapū, see below a guide: Te Whānau ā Tauwhao - Rangiwaea, Otāwhiwhi Ngāi Tukairangi - Whareroa, Hungahungatoroa Ngāti Kuku - Whareroa Ngāti Tapu - Waikari Ngāi Tamawhariua ki Matakana – Te Rangihouhiri Ngāi Tamawhariua ki Katikati - Te Rereatukahia Ngāti Hē - Maungatapu Ngāti Tauaiti - Kutaroa Ngāi Tuwhiwhia - Opureora Te Ngare - Opounui Ngā Pōtiki - Tahuwhakatiki, Tamapahore
We acknowledge that whānau are at different stages of connecting with whakapapa. We want to connect with you as much you want to connect with us, the below helps us do that. This is where we capture the details of your Whakapapa to enable us to verify your connection to Ngāi Te Rangi iwi. The goal is to demonstrate this relationship by providing us with details of the side or sides of your family that have this link. It is important to note the following:
Please provide the details of Parent One. If this parent is where your Ngāi Te Rangi whakapapa comes from, choose to "Add" new generations until you're sure the connection has been made to the Hapū. Please note: you only need to provide information relevant to your Ngāi Te Rangi whakapapa, if a tupuna has no affiliation to our Hapū or Iwi, we don't need their details to be included for verification e.g. if your Father's mother was Pakeha. Please provide the details of Parent One, if this is the source of your Ngāi Te Rangi ancestry, please elect to “Add” new generations until you are confident the relationship to the Hapu is established (five generations is usually sufficient). Please note: you only need to provide information relevant to your Ngāi Te Rangi whakapapa, if a tupuna has no affiliation to our Hapū or Iwi, we don't need their details to be included for verification e.g. if your Father's mother was Pakeha.
This person is embraced as a whāngai
This only needs to be completed if both of your parents whakapapa back to Ngāi Te Rangi. If this is the case, elect to "Add" new generations until you are confident the relationship to the Hapū is established (five generations is usually sufficient). Please note: you only need to provide information relevant to your Ngāi Te Rangi whakapapa, if a tupuna has no affiliation to our Hapū or Iwi, we don't need their details to be included for verification e.g. if your Father's mother was Pakeha.
This person is embraced as a whāngai.
Whāngai holds significant value within our whakapapa, and we are committed to ensuring our tribal register accurately reflects this. Currently, our voting rights are determined solely through legal adoption. We acknowledge that in most cases, whāngai relationships exist within the whānau, and not all instances of whāngai have been put through a legal adoption process. To establish your connection to Ngāi Te Rangi, it will be necessary for you to recognise and acknowledge your birth parents. There might arise situations where a whānau member has been a whāngai from another Iwi without formal legal adoption. In such instances, we welcome you to include your information in our system as an affiliate. However, it's important to note that, at present, this affiliation wont give you voting rights.
I am whānau by whāngai.
